History of the Department

The Department of Primary Education began admitting undergraduate students in the 2014–2015 academic year within the Department of Basic Education, Faculty of Education, Süleyman Demirel University, with the aim of training qualified primary school teachers for the first stage of primary education. Since its establishment, the program has structured its curriculum in line with the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ), the MEB General Competencies for the Teaching Profession, and the current MEB primary school curricula, focusing on strengthening the subject matter knowledge, pedagogical formation, assessment and evaluation, classroom management, and digital competencies of prospective teachers.

The academic staff consists of faculty members specialized in primary education and educational sciences, combining subject matter expertise, scientific productivity, and school‑based practical experience to conduct educational, research, and community service activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In alignment with the Strategic Plans of Süleyman Demirel University and the Faculty of Education, the program has adopted a continuous improvement approach aimed at developing national and international collaborations, integrating innovative instructional technologies into teaching processes, and increasing the output of qualified academic publications and projects.
