The Primary Teacher Education Undergraduate Program is a four-year (240 ECTS) higher education program designed to holistically train prospective teachers who will serve at the primary school level, with respect to subject matter knowledge, pedagogical competence, professional skills, research and digital competencies, as well as socio-emotional and ethical dimensions. The content of the program is structured based on the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ) Level 6 undergraduate qualifications, the Twelfth Development Plan, the Strategic Plan of Süleyman Demirel University, the Ministry of National Education (MEB) General Competencies for the Teaching Profession, the current MEB curricula, and the framework of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Primary Teacher Education Undergraduate Program.
The program aims to enable prospective teachers to acquire advanced theoretical and applied subject matter knowledge in primary school subjects such as Turkish, mathematics, science, life studies (Hayat Bilgisi), social studies, religious culture and ethics, a foreign language, visual arts, music, play, and physical activities; and to transfer this knowledge into the classroom environment through student-centered, inclusive, skill-based, and digitally supported teaching approaches. Accordingly, courses are offered within an integrated structure combining the components of subject matter knowledge, subject-specific pedagogy, teaching profession knowledge, general culture, research and project development, digital competence, and school-based experience. The goal is for prospective teachers to demonstrate balanced development in the knowledge, skills, and competencies defined at TYYÇ Level 6, as well as in the cognitive, socio-emotional, value, and dispositional dimensions prescribed by the current MEB curricula.
